The Pilates Association Australia has offered complimentary student membership and organised a transition forum for 50 students affected by Breathe Education’s liquidation, with nine approved training providers presenting alternative education pathways.
The Pilates Association Australia (PAA) has responded to the liquidation of Breathe Education by offering affected students temporary support and clearer routes into approved Pilates education. The association says 50 former Breathe students registered for an information session involving nine PAA-approved training providers.
The students were given complimentary PAA student membership, despite Breathe Education not having been a PAA-approved training course. According to PAA president Jacqui [sic—do not use], the arrangement did not retrospectively recognise Breathe’s course or alter the association’s standards. Instead, it was intended to connect students with professional resources while they considered their next steps.
Each participating provider was given dedicated time to explain its course structure, possible entry pathways and, where applicable, discounts or other assistance for affected students. The association described the session as a practical way to replace uncertainty with informed choice, rather than directing students towards a single training organisation.
The development matters beyond Australia because Pilates education is increasingly international, and students may invest substantial sums before entering the profession. A provider’s closure can leave learners uncertain about course recognition, credit transfer, future teaching eligibility and the value of training already completed. PAA’s response highlights the potential role of professional associations as information hubs during such disruptions.
The initiative does not independently establish the quality of any alternative programme, nor does it guarantee that students will receive equivalent credit for previous study. Those decisions remain matters for individual providers. However, the episode strengthens the case for prospective students to check approval status, assessment arrangements, complaints procedures and continuity plans before enrolling. For educators and studio owners, it also underlines the importance of transparent communication and professional networks when training pathways change unexpectedly.
