Merrithew’s acquisition of the GYROTONIC organisation signals a broader consolidation of the international mindful-movement market, bringing Pilates education, equipment and a complementary movement system under one corporate structure.

Merrithew has acquired the GYROTONIC organisation as it expands beyond its STOTT PILATES portfolio and builds a wider international mindful-movement business. The deal, reported on 24 September 2026, covers the GYROTONIC and GYROKINESIS methods founded by Juliu Horvath. Financial terms were not disclosed.

GYROTONIC uses specialised apparatus featuring pulleys and rotating and sliding components to support fluid, three-dimensional movement, while GYROKINESIS is practised without equipment. The methods have an established international network: the organisation says more than 20,000 trainers teach across over 80 countries, although those figures are supplied by the organisation and have not been independently audited in the report.

For Merrithew, the acquisition follows its purchase of Align-Pilates in 2024 and continues a strategy of combining movement education, equipment and distribution. The company says it intends to preserve GYROTONIC’s philosophy, education standards and community while providing additional international infrastructure. Those are corporate intentions rather than evidence of specific improvements for instructors, studios or clients.

The development matters to Pilates professionals because it may influence how complementary movement systems are distributed, taught and positioned alongside Pilates worldwide. It could give GYROTONIC greater access to equipment, education and commercial support, but it also raises questions about maintaining distinct teaching traditions and governance after a corporate acquisition. The deal reflects industry expansion, not evidence that one method is more effective than another.
